Tournament Rules Question regarding Valkyrie/Storm Raven

RE: Tournament Rules Question regarding Valkyrie/Storm Raven
Now I'm hearing and forgive me I'm at work already and don't have my Main 40k Rule book on me.....

But I'm hearing that most everything, including movement (inc coming onto the table) is always measured from the vehicle's hull UNLESS it has a base, then movement is measured from the base. Which could be a really bad thing or a really great thing for anyone with Skimmers/Flyers etc....

Thoughts?

Big rule book page 94. Under arriving from reserves. "When a reserve unit arrices, it must move onto the table from the controlling players own table edge......Each model's move is measured from the edge of the battlefield, as if they had been positioned just off the board in the previous turn...." You can read the rest.

If your Valk was on the board already, would you measure from front of hull to front of base for moving? That would be an illegal move netting you a couple extra inches. Same goes for when you are off the board. Tip of the nose to tip of the nose. Or wing tip to wing tip, then rotate. However you do it, if you plan to move only 6 inches, some of the model will be off the board.

The Adepticon FAQ specifically ruled as models can hang of the board edge if it can without falling. So you don't have to move a land raider in sideways.

I like that rule. But it is in conflict with this FAQ rule from GW.
Q: Can a vehicle that is moving on from reserves perform
a tank shock? (p68)
A: Yes it can, declare the distance it is going to move
along with its direction and move the tank onto the board
that many inches, measuring from the board edge as for a
normal from reserve. The tank shock is performed as
usual. However, if the tank is forced to stop for any reason
before the entire vehicle is on the board then the vehicle,
and any embarked units, count as destroyed and are
removed from play.

I have both models, I measured from the front of the hull to the back of the base and it's about 6inches, maybe 6.5. I'd say just move so back of the base is touching and it's fine.

RE: Tournament Rules Question regarding Valkyrie/Storm Raven
I'll have to see If I can't get some clarification on where these people thought you measured from the Vehicles Base if it has one.

It seems sort of out of whack that you disembark from the Valk or SR BASE but measure movement from the hull. But then there are thousands of things in 40k that don't make sense.

thanks for the info DC!

You could write an FAQ on going to dinner.
You could also cut 2 inches off the model with a saw.

Bringing the pain 12 dice at a time.
