Tournament Rules Question regarding Drop Pods

Tournament Rules Question regarding Drop Pods
Are there established rules for PBK&W Tournaments regarding Drop Pods, Doors Open/Closed, Line of Sight etc etc

I ask because these are things that have not (AFAIK) been officially resolved by GW and searches online yield various answers as it seems for now people/tournaments are making house rules so as to avoid confusion during play.

sooo...

1. Do troops/dreads disembark 2” from the base/floor of the Drop Pod or from any part of any of the doors? I'm fairly sure most people deploy from the base but just wanted to check.

2. Once deployed/landed and the doors are open, is the drop pod and it's open doors considered dangerous terrain? IE you'd have to take a dangerous terrain test to walk over an open door? IE if I decide on turn three to run back and hide inside my drop pod I would then have to take a dangerous terrain test to go back in it?

3. If all the doors are open and a model can (true line of sight) see through to an enemy on the other side, can it shoot at that enemy (allowing for cover saves if applicable)? Or do you just say nothing can shoot through a drop pod (open doors or not) and leave it at that?

4. If a person is too lazy or too easily annoyed and glues their Drop Pod doors closed do you allow them to use the Storm Bolter or Deathwind missile launcher?

5. If a person is too lazy or too easily annoyed and glues their Drop Pod doors closed and assuming you allow a drop pod to be fired through (if the doors were open as they should be) how then do you handle it? Lift the Drop Pod straight up, check LOS then set it straight back down?

6. If someone correctly models their Drop Pod and the doors work as they should, do you allow people to selectively open a door/s while leaving others closed too block some LOS assuming the tourney rules even allow for shooting through a Drop Pod (see question 2). Or do you require all doors to be open (assuming some bit of terrain does not keep one or more closed IE you landed beside a wall) since the rules/description for Drop Pods just refer to the doors being blown once it has landed. I personally take that as meaning ALL doors open on impact again assuming some bit of terrain has not caused one or more to not open.

Sorry for all the questions but I'm just curious how you guys handle these situations up there.

Thanks in advance!

lol.

They also don't insta-gib shit like in DoW2.

Dave's expert rule calling:

1. 2'' from anywhere.

2. Not dangerous terrain, its an immobilized vehicle, not a burning pile of shit.

3. can shoot through

4. no. You wanna shoot your shit it needs LOS too.

5. They cant fire thought it. True LOS regardless of the fault of the douch who made their pod a giant metal ass suppository.

6. All door open as far as they can.

7. If a person makes all their pods ass suppositories, you can make fun of them.

8. If a person uses coke cans as drop pods you can preform a lethal karate chop to their head.

So, I'm gonna automatically assume Dave's wrong, and answer correctly.

1) From the base.

2) It's not dangerous terrain, and models can walk over the doors, provided they stay at least 1" away from the base. Also, you may not reembark into drop pods. once you spill out, you're out. (pg. 69 of Codex: Space Marines)

3) Yes, they can shoot through.

4) Yes

5) TLOS; if you can see it, you can shoot at it.

6) If the doors can open, they must open (and stay open). Opening and closing the doors is called modeling for advantage.

7) Shut up Dave.

8) Shut up Dave.

9) Don't ever listen to anything Dave says.

Here at The Assault Phase we do our best to solve disagreements with violence. If you say fighting never solves anything, you're probably a pussy who was once somebody else's problem, and that problem was solved upside your ass.

RE: Tournament Rules Question regarding Drop Pods
I *gasp* agree with Dave...except for #1. I think 2" from the base of the pod is the correct way to do it. You guys would all spaz out if someone dropped the hatch of a chimera and measured 2" from the back edge of the door wouldn't you? I know Rob would stab me if I tried that with a waveserpent hatch when I hop out to blow up his doods. Big Grin

4&5 are iffy. Dickey's assertion that it's TLOS for shooting through it but not for shooting out of it doesn't work for me. Doors glued closed = No LOS as far as I'm concerned.

I too look forward to never seeing a coke can drop pod again, and have always been of the opinion that such nonsense should be disallowed in tournaments.

I agree with the others that

1. should be from the base and not from the door petals.

But I agree with Dave and like his outlook/attitude regarding 4, 5, 7 and 8

If I need true LOS to shoot through a pod and you have your doors glued shut, IE I can't shoot through it....then your Dred/Troops/Termis can't get out either. That goes for a Coke can too. Or if you're a douche as Dave would say and you glue your doors shut but still want to be able to get out, then I get to shoot through it and you can't nit-pick if I could really see through or not.....we'll never know... you're a douche and glued your doors shut.

I appreciate all the replies and like all the responses thus far. I've not really used Drop Pods and in my quest to find some tactics I ran across all these issues and wanted to clarify how it's done at PBK&W so as to better determine my strategy to use them.

Thanks again folks!
