Usually BOLS articles that aren't rumors of an upcoming release are terrible, but I found a rare winner. I would actually like to give this a shot for a tournament.

I hate to say anything related to BOLS is a good idea, but that's not bad at all. Props to you for finding it. I would not mind trying it, but I think someones gonna complain that they get stuck with a particular type of mission 3 times in a row.

Here at The Assault Phase we do our best to solve disagreements with violence. If you say fighting never solves anything, you're probably a pussy who was once somebody else's problem, and that problem was solved upside your ass.

While that could happen, I think most people will be picking turn or deployment over mission. I think the feel of picking your battle conditions with your foe makes up for any repeats in the missions.

Anytime I see something like this, I go through the "How would I break this?" process. I thought about list stacking for one mission type, but that puts too much to a roll of the dice. That's really the only obvious way to attempt to exploit this, but if anything I think it actually exposes you to the system more than taking any real advantage of it. Your opponent is going to very clearly see from your list (if they aren't a total mouthbreather) what you stacked for and try their damnedest to pick something else.

The people who do well at this are going to be the ones that can best analyze their strengths vs their opponent pre-game and make the right choices. Also, there's going to be a big benefit to having two solid gameplans. For example: win first pick and choose Annihilation / lose and opponent picks something else and I take second and reserve everything. Another thing that will be a challenge is listbuilding to either conceal your plan, or better yet trick your opponent into making picks you want them to.

Wow, I'd never thought about that.

I like it, it breaks up the monontony of just getting one of the three missions every tournament, and adds more depth to the game. I also think that this will help mitigate some discrepency between codex power as now armies that have less power have the ability to make it hard for their opponent by choosing the mission, deployment type, or going first or second based on what the army is good at.
